Tree health diagnosis
Thorough assessment of your tree's health
Tree Diagnostics is the process of assessing the health and condition of trees which is crucial in tree care. This includes evaluating the tree’s risk level, identifying any diseases or insects that might be affecting its health.
These aspects are all essential components of providing comprehensive and effective tree care services, and it helps identify potential issues before they become more serious and costly to address. By using specific arborist tools, our team of experts can accurately diagnose tree problems and provide recommendations for treatment or management.

What We Look For
Our Tree Diagnostics services include a range of assessments and analyses to help you make informed decisions about your trees. Here are some of the specific services we offer:
Visual Assessments
First we conduct thorough visual inspections of trees to identify any signs of damage, decay, or disease. This includes examining the trunk, branches, leaves, and overall tree structure. During this time we also get as much information about the history of the tree and site conditions to help determine any factors that may have caused long term impacts to a tree's health or structural stability.
Risk assessment
Next we assess the risk level, inspect hazardous limbs, and test structural integrity. We want to determine likelihood of branch, or whole tree failure and potential impacts to property as a result. And also identify hazardous branches or sections of the canopy, and assess structural integrity.

Tree Management Plan
After our Arborists determine the health and condition of a tree, management options can be provided often resulting in preserving trees where possible while mitigating risk and improving tree health.
This could include salvaging trees that have been written off and recommending a pruning and fertilization to bring your tree back to life.
Our goal is to provide our clients with as much information as possible along with management options so that our clients can make informed decisions in managing their tree situation.

Expert knowledge to diagnose and save your trees
Each situation is unique, and various factors can impact a tree’s health. Understanding these nuances and providing tailored solutions is key to delivering effective tree care services.
Sometimes, when a tree appears sick and diseased, you might think tree removal is the only solution. However, there are techniques on hand to help mitigate risks and address their concerns. Services like tree pruning and supplemental support systems primarily mitigate risk. Soil and root management improve long term tree health and/or resolve conflicts with surrounding infrastructure.
Improving soil conditions can be a more sustainable, long-term solution to help a tree regain its health and resilience against pests. However, if more than 30% of the tree’s canopy has been lost due to an infestation, it might be necessary to provide the client with a quote for tree removal, as the tree may not recover in the long run.

Common Tree Diseases and Pests
Customers often call in and ask us about tree health issues, such as diseases and infections, and whether or not we can do anything about these common diseases.
There are some common pest challenges in the Rogue Valley, which can be difficult to address without using chemicals like insecticides or fungicides. Some of the tree species particularly conifers like Douglas firs and Ponderosa Pines, are susceptible to insect problems such as the Douglas fir beetle and the mountain pine beetle. Other diseases(pests) like IPS Bore from IPS Bark Beetles and red turpentine beetle are also present, but it’s the mountain pine beetle that’s most well known and most fatal.
When inspecting a tree affected by these insects, we assess the site conditions, history, and overall condition of the canopy to determine the severity of the infestation. Based on that, we decide on a management strategy, which usually involves using an air spade to improve soil conditions. This process includes conducting a soil test to identify nutrient deficiencies and pH levels, to determine if that is going to be conducive to that particular species of tree’s health.

Solutions to manage pests and disease
Then using the air spade we aerate the soil and incorporate amendments and fertilizers to address the deficiencies. This can improve the overall health of the tree and build its resistance, to help it naturally fight off those insects as they should. In some cases, there are benefits to coupling this strategy with insecticides for a short period of time.
The soil management approach is the long-term solution, along with supplemental irrigation to ensure the tree gets enough water during the summer. This helps the tree stay healthy and naturally resist insects, which is what they have evolved to do over many years. We always try to find natural ways to deal with these situations, and this approach has been quite effective.
